Cold Weather Lip Care Tips

November 16, 2018

It happens every year: as the weather gets colder and the air gets drier, our lips start to chap, flake, and crack more easily. If we lick them to try and add some moisture, it ultimately leaves our lips looking and feeling drier and more painful than before.

In case you haven’t heard, the Blistex team knows quite a lot about lips! We’re here to bestow upon you a few tips to help keep your pucker primed and protected throughout the winter months:

1) Keep your lips covered
Unless you regularly wear something over your face, your lips are constantly exposed to the elements. Heat, cold, wind, dry air, and sun all help contribute to chapped lips (incidentally, our Five Star Lip Protection protects against all of those!). Winter is one season where a scarf could certainly come in handy.

2) Stay hydrated
Got water? Make sure that you’re hydrating your lips from the inside out: according to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, men need about 15.5 cups (not glasses, CUPS!) of water per day, and women need about 11.5 cups. Keep that reusable water bottle on hand!

3) Use a humidifier
Believe it or not, your lips can get just as chapped inside your house as they can outside with the wind and cold. Investing in a humidifier (even just a small one for your desk at work!) can make a huge difference in how your lips look and feel during the winter months.

4) Use a winter-proof lip balm
Yeah, here’s where we insert our product spiel, but it’s true: using lip balms with the right ingredients can help heal, seal, and protect your lips year-round. As mentioned before, our Five Star Lip Protection is a great option, but our DCT, Medicated Lip Ointment, and Medicated Lip Balm are also fantastic choices!

We hope these quick tips give your lips some relief this winter. You can check out the rest of our website to uncover even more Lip Tips!
