Winter Lip Care: Five Star Lip Protection Ingredients

January 25, 2019

If there’s one thing we know about winter, it’s that the season is exceptionally harsh on our lips. Cold weather, dry air, and piercing winds can make it difficult to keep your lips moisturized and protected.

Luckily, our Five Star Lip Protection lip balm was specifically developed to be up to the task of protecting your lips from the harshest of nature’s conditions: dry air, UV exposure, heat, cold, and wind. But what is it about Five Star that makes us give it five stars? How does it accomplish everything we say it does? We’re glad you asked!

Our Five Star Lip Protection lip balm contains 5 key ingredients meant to help protect, soothe, and rehydrate your lips.

1) Panthenol
As a form of Vitamin B5, panthenol is used in cosmetics and self-care items for a whole host of reasons! We chose to include it in Five Star for its moisture-retention capabilities; one of the most common complaints people have about their lips during the winter months is dryness. Panthenol is great at helping to hold our lips’ moisture in!

2) Candelilla wax
Becoming increasingly well-known as a vegan alternative for beeswax, candelilla wax is derived from the leaves and stems of the candelilla plant. It helps prevent the balm from melting when warmed (i.e. from keeping your balm in your pocket) and aids in giving it a smooth-gliding application. We chose it for its ability to help form a barrier between lips and harsh winter winds, keeping moisture in and lips happy!

3) Wheat germ oil
Thanks to some central heating systems and the cold weather, dry air is easy to come by. Because the skin on our lips is so thin, being in such arid environments makes it easy for moisture to escape. Wheat germ oil not only aids your lips by helping to retain moisture, it also helps to nourish them. Talk about a one-two-punch!

4) Calendula oil
Nobody likes chapped lips (at least we hope not!), which is where this handy floral oil comes into play. It’s known for its soothing properties, making it the perfect ingredient to comfort your cold-chapped lips come wintertime!

5) Broad Spectrum SPF 30
If you’ve ever heard the expression, “Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing,” we’ll tell you that sunshine is the perfect example. We can’t live without it, but the sun can have long-lasting negative effects on our lips. In fact, up to 90% of visible changes attributed to aging are caused by too much sun exposure! By providing UVA & UVB sun protection, the SPF provided in Five Star helps to protect your lips during whatever outdoor wintry activities you may participate in.
